Media Release: Clackamas County statement on reopening in response to Governor Brown’s announcement

Clackamas County is releasing the following statement, in the wake of Governor Brown’s May 7 announcement:

-------------------------------------

Since COVID-19 appeared in Clackamas County, our Emergency Operations Center and Public Health Officer have guided commissioners’ decisions. Protecting residents has been our goal, and the actions taken by residents thus far have saved lives.

We understand people want to return to normal as quickly as possible, especially with Governor Brown’s announcement. We are working on the Phase 1 plan to submit to Governor Brown, but this is challenging due to our county’s size and unique make-up. Per the governor’s guidelines, we must first reach established goals with contact tracing, a decrease in the prevalence of the virus, and hospital admission data. We are at least a couple of weeks away from meeting these prerequisites. We ask residents to continue to abide by the governor’s order, to ensure the progress we have made against the virus is not lost.

We encourage local businesses to review the Governor’s plans and adhere to the required guidelines, to help Clackamas County reopen. Thus, our local mayors need to hear from their businesses about preparation plans prior to planned openings. We must all work together collaboratively to avoid a future spike in infections.

-------------------------------------

Clackamas County will continue to provide the latest information on reopening at www.clackamas.us/coronavirus. Questions from businesses should be emailed to 4biz@clackamas.us.
