Communicating with Boards, Elected Leaders, and Others Regarding What Your System Needs

Who Should Attend: Utility staff including managers, owners, and operators of small water systems serving less than 10,000 people as well as board members or elected officials.

 

Successful employees need strong communication skills to influence attitudes and get things done. Regardless of your position, leadership occurs at every level of a water system.

 

In this workshop, you will learn how to:

  • * Communicate with the public, your board, and elected officials
  • * Build support for decisions involving rates, budgets, and capital improvements
  • * Be a compelling communicator to raise awareness, and change attitudes and behaviors
  • * Reduce conflict, and improve staff collaboration and participation in decision-making

Understanding the Needs of Your Water Utility

Who Should Attend: Decision-makers for water utilities, including mayors, finance officers, utility managers, public works directors, city councilors, board members, tribal council members, and clerks

 

This 2-hour training will focus on teaching tools and communication techniques that will help water system board members and other decision-makers gain support for initiatives, projects, and funding related to water infrastructure.

 

You will learn how to:

  • * Use techniques for persuasion and managing conflict
  • * Gather community support for your projects to reach your goal

 

 
 

CEUs: 0.5 DWP CEUs are available to water operators attending "Communicating with Boards, Elected Leaders, and Other Regarding What Your System Needs." CEUs are not available for the 6-8pm Board Training.
