Mayor and Council – This is an in case you hear something e-mail.

As you all know the Fenton Avenue water, sewer, storm project has gone on way past project completion date. We are currently into liquidated damages and we do not know where that will end up but the project is limping toward completion. However, that is not the whole story. We have provisions (or, contractor) penalties in our contracts (like liquidated damages) for the express purpose that we know how much an infrastructure project impacts adjoining properties. The complaints and bad feelings generated from a pot hole or rough road do not compare to the bad moods people acquire during a construction project. Ms. Hoffman has a point and we have done and are doing everything we can to minimize and eliminate conflicts. Gerald has done a nice job speaking with residents and business owners throughout the project.

Please let us know if you have concerns or comments.

Hi Debbie,

We checked into the business license code and it doesn’t allow us to waive or reduce the business license fees.

I can tell you that as of today, the contractor has successfully been able to get all of the construction aspects of the sewer line completed and we are finalizing testing. This is good news because it had been the single biggest hold up on the project. The Contractor has a plumber coming in starting the first of next week to move all of the services over and then will finalize the connection of the waterline. This is anticipated to take 2-3 days to complete. We are making sure that all testing requirements are met simultaneously so we can move to paving and closeout of the project. Paving is still scheduled for Nov 22nd and, if needed, Nov 25th.

Again, I and my staff are truly sorry for all of the delays you’ve gone through in this project. It’s small consolation but due to the liquidated damages assessed, the rate payers of the sewer and water system will not be paying full price for this project. That translates to the money being used on other projects and lowers our potential needs for rate increases in the future.

Regards,
