Leota – I believe you are missing some information or may be misinformed. The restroom at Long Park was closed from 9:00 AM yesterday until 7:30 AM today. We have had an escalation of issues with this restroom over the past two weeks and we were doing more than just closing the restroom. There are certain protocols that we have when cleaning and sterilizing public restrooms when we discover certain items. We are also investigating certain activities that we will not post signs or advertise what type of activity we are undertaking.

We have also spent time at Long Park interviewing park users over the past two weeks, in addition to certain levels of Police involvement. We will not be advertising those activities.

Good Afternoon Dan

I noticed yesterday that the restrooms at Long Park are locked. There are signs on the door that have pictures of "needle cap", "unknown substance" (in the pic of this, I don't see what they are refering to), "trash that probably has needles in it".

I'm sure I know the thinking behind someone deciding to lock them but I think this is unacceptable. Locking them hurts everyone who visits the park.

Some mothers with children use the parks. Some people who use tools at the bike plaza may need the restroom. Teenage groups use the parks. Our wheelchair bound homeless veteran depends on those restrooms as do the other homeless people. By locking them, we are forcing street people to do their business elsewhere, which is even worse.

This is my request for the restrooms to be unlocked. If there are plans to keep them locked on a permanent basis, I think it should be brought before Council.

Thank you,

Leota Childress
