Hi Jody,

K. This needs to go out to Council since this is the second Council person who has brought up a FB comment.

First things first. FB is not the platform for problem resolution. Stuff like this needs to be reported to Public Works. Second thing is that this issue has nothing to do with our water and people aren’t getting sick from our water. I have no idea where Ms. Surma-Skogan gets or makes up her own falsehoods from. I can't fix stupid comments like these or the thought process that goes into it. What I can say is please let these people know that these things should be reported to the City, that WES (Water Environment Services for Clackamas County) does not have jurisdiction here (you live in Molalla now), and making false statement like the City's water makes people sick does nothing but maliciously create fear based on false information. I'll say it. She's just lying to stir things up. This is why I don’t have FB account. I would be spending all of my time shaming people who do this.

I investigated the issue today, found out who did it (homeowner), and he is currently going through a "reeducation" process. Important point to note is that because Mr. Lelm chose the vigilante approach on FB and did not report it to us in a timely manner, any paint that was dumped down the storm drain was washed away by the rain. So, because of his inaction any downstream potential effects can now not be mitigated by the City. I looked in the storm detention ponds and there is no evidence of the paint so it is likely on its way down the Pudding River. That's where that area drains too via Bear Creek.

Regards,

Hi Gerald,

There was a guy that posted on Molalla NOW that he saw that someone had been pouring paint into our storm drain. I wondered if this was something we need to follow up on? I have no ides what neighborhood he lives in.

Jody Newland

City Councilor
