Thank you. I know that is our priority but my faith in contractors is at an all-time low. My greatest fear is having part of that area torn up during the 4th. Why will it take three months for this small amount of work to be done?

Subject: 20181024 Director's Report DPW
Hi Gerald,
Thank you for the report and the fine work the Public Works Department is doing. It is exciting to see so many projects underway.
I do have question on Public Capital Projects Underway #19.
18-15 Clark Park Sidewalk Improvements (Phase 2) – Draft design completion by November 30th and final plans and specifications completed by December 31st. Anticipate bids in February 2019 and construction from May 2019 through July 2019. This project will construct sidewalk improvements along the east side of N. Cole Avenue and crossing improvements at Cole/Shirley intersection. Dyer Partnership currently working on design.
My concern is with the July completion date. Portions of this will probably still be under construction over July 4, the time of year that this area is very busy due to the parade and the Buckeroo. We haven't seen a contractor bring in a project on time for the last couple of years and there is no reason to believe this would be any different. Construction during this time would be dangerous to pedestrians and traffic as well as a very poor reflection of City planning.
If we want to show off the improvements, it behooves us to change the construction period. Can it be done March 2019 through May 2019? I'd be concerned about taking it any later than that. If the contractor doesn't complete by May, it is more likely they would in June. We might also write higher per diem penalties for over-run into the contract. If we can't bring the project forward to more than likely ensure completion, can we delay until after the first week in July?
Thank you,
Leota Childress
