Mayor and Council – I heard something today that I wanted to give you all some information for community discussion. What I heard is that “WINCO is not coming to Molalla because the City’s requirements are so stringent”. The issue of WINCO coming or not coming to town is something that we do not know. The potential grocery store was never identified to city staff. What I do know is that WINCO is currently moving into the old Haggen site in south Oregon City along Highway 213. I am fairly certain that one was not proposed for Molalla.

In reality, we do not know if or why the proposed developers were so adamant about being in a hurry to construct in the spring of 2018 and then moved on. What they told Staff when we were in the midst of working on their zone change is that they decided to wait without explanation. We began working with them on development standards, fees and requirements long before the City Council meeting in October where they challenged our Development Code. Our understanding at that point was that they were satisfied with our efforts.

We can specifically tell you that Molalla’s Development Standards, fees and requirements are not out of line with similar communities larger and smaller. I am unsure where the rumors are coming from and what specifically the rumors are referring but the people in Molalla and the Molalla Community deserve quality development as much as the next community in my opinion.

Let us know if you have questions.
