Mayor and Council - Attached to this e-mail is a comparison of our recent/historical utility billing process and the correct/Code compliant process that we will be moving toward over the next two to three months. Something to remember is that the past process is not supported by our Municipal Code. The updated or new process is per Code.
We do not know why the process was changed outside the boundaries of Code language but we believe the change occurred approximately in 2008. The process may seem new to some account users but the process isn’t new at all just correct and per the Municipal Code. Accounts that pay on time through express bill pay, in person or by mail will not know there is a change. Only those that pay late or wait to receive a shut off notice will experience the “new” process.
Our expectation is that the transition will take a little more than two months and we have included an amnesty program for shut off and late fees until everyone is up to speed. Please let us know if you have questions or need clarification.
