Good Morning!

I'm responding to your Citizen Concern, #1270, #1269, #1268 and #1267 regarding the condition of Fox Park. Yes I agree the slides need to be replaced pronto. If you will please give me a chance to look in to where we are it would be appreciated: One of the problems we are facing is that the manufacturer of this play structure is no longer supplying parts (out of business), so we needed to find another company willing to fabricate one specifically for Molalla. We have two companies that have been looking into the problem: GameTime Inc, and Cascade Rec.

As for the Art work mentioned, that is being paid for by a generous grant from the Mt. Hood Territory Tourism Grant which we applied for as an extension of our work with the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde to celebrate our Community and History. The Clackamas County Tourism & Cultural Affairs (TCA) is the Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) for Clackamas County and is funded by the Transient Room Tax, a 6% tax charged on all overnight stays in the county, including hotels & motels, campgrounds, retreat centers, RV parks, bed & breakfasts, and vacation rentals. With only a few such overnight businesses in Molalla we felt our Community is benefiting from bringing in some dollars from this County Funding source. In any case, you can be assured that no tax dollars dedicated to Parks were used to install this art.

As for the wood chips just placed in the park, I've attached the Engineering Specifications for that material. There are always folks who don't like it, but it provides some significant advantages for the City. For example, most wheel chairs can roll on it, and crash tests have been performed that show it to be a much better fall protection agent than, say, pea gravel or some other material.

I hope this answers some of your concerns, and I also hope the community will provide us with a little more time to solve this issues. Please feel free to share this information with anyone who might wish to know - I'm not able to respond or collaborate on social media.

Respectfully,

Andy Peters

Nature of Concern: The slides need to be fixed pronto. Summer is coming up in a couple of weeks and our kids need a safe place to play. I know that slides can be expensive but $300 for the covered slide and $80 for the short toddler slide is not much in retrospect with how much the city spends on things we don't really need. I saw something about a statue on social media. I'm a practical person and a safe place for kids to play seems more like something I'd like to see my tax payers dollars to go towards, instead of to put it blatantly "decorations".

Nature of Concern: The park at the library the slides have been broke for over a year now we visit their often it would be nice to get them fixed we have kids and family that visit often.

#1268

Department: Parks

Nature of Concern: The conditions at the fox park playground is in very poor shape when it comes to the slides. Could we please look into fixing them as they pose a hazard to the younger children. Thank you from concerned parents.

#1267

Department: Parks

Nature of Concern: There are 2 slides that are currently closed at the Library Park. It's our best park and getting ready to get busier with the splash this summer. As a Molalla Mommy I'd love to see this park kept up for all to enjoy and helping our city maintain a good image! Thanks for your time!
