Hi Christie,
Please let her know that we can’t do that and that the lights are owned and operated by PGE. We want the lights to come on for safety and security reasons. When you have a moment please post the following message from Public Works to our page and connect to FB.
“With all of the excitement surrounding the eclipse on August 21st, we would like to take a moment remind community members and visitors to keep the roadways clear for our Public Works, Police, Fire, and other emergency responders. We want to be able to respond to emergencies as they happen and for everyone to be safe during this event. We would also like to remind everyone that with the darkening of the sky we may experience a temperature drop and see street lights and other security lights turn on. We’ve been asked by some if the City has the ability to turn off the lights for this event. For several reasons we can’t do that. First and foremost is the street lighting provides both safety and security to pedestrians, bicyclist, and motorist. Also, the power to the street lights is hard wired and sensors on top of the lights control when the lights turn on and off. Make sure motorist see you when you are walking or biking and slow down and be aware of your surrounding while operating motor vehicles. Be safe, have fun, and thanks in advance for your cooperation. Gerald Fisher, PE, Public Works Director”

Subject: Eclipse Question
A lady called me just now to see if the City was planning to turn the street lamps off during the Eclipse?
She would like for me to call her back…
