I’ve got data for some but not all of their fields but most of what’s left is a pretty quick check. From: BERGERSON Terry * OPRD [mailto:Terry.Bergerson@oregon.gov] Sent: Friday, January 26, 2018 12:19 PM To: BERGERSON Terry * OPRD Terry.Bergerson@oregon.gov> Subject: Upcoming information requests for Oregon Statewide Outdoor Recreation Plan Oregon Recreation Providers, The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) is currently in the process of developing a Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) for the state of Oregon. The plan is scheduled for completion in December 2018. The intent of this message is to inform you of three upcoming data collection efforts in which OPRD staff will ask your agency/ organization for information regarding key planning components. These key components include: 1. Parkland Mapping Project: OPRD GIS staff will conduct a statewide spatial parkland and amenity inventory. This inventory will include GIS mapping of all public parklands in the state and to identify key facilities included in those parklands (e.g. restrooms, ballfields, children’s playgrounds, trails, etc.). Initial mapping will be conducted by OPRD staff. Once completed, OPRD staff will contact each recreation provider to verify mapping information within their jurisdiction. 2. Need Non-motorized Trail Funding: The planning process has identified the need for additional funding for non-motorized trail development and major rehabilitation within Urban Growth Boundaries (UGBs) in the state. A recently completed survey of Oregon residents shows that providing more “within your community” walking trails or paths was the most important agency action with respect to increasing physical activity within the population. As such, an investment in state resources for close-to-home trail access would be a cost-effective public health strategy for increasing physical activity levels and reducing levels of overweight and obesity in the Oregon population. In the coming weeks, OPRD will send each public recreation provider a needs assessment survey, intending to develop a statewide cost investment for such trail project work in coming years. 3. Recreational Needs Assessment: OPRD will conduct an online survey of Oregon public recreation providers to identify overall outdoor recreation funding need in the state. This survey will ask providers to rate the importance of funding need of a variety of recreation projects in their jurisdiction in the coming five years. In the coming weeks, you will be contacted regarding these three specific information requests. We will ask you to assign these data collection responsibilities to the appropriate staff members within your organization. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the SCORP plan or these data collection efforts.
