Dan, yes, we can track a Foreign key on the Short lists to GIS objects IDs. Then provide you with data in any format you like which you can backflush into GIS. This is the poor-man’s way to get a decent system fast, I think. I’ll work with you directly on it!

We can probably at least fudge the GIS integration piece?

I’m good with that program to start it up and get things running and documented. We can always adjust based on changing rules or best management practices. Things may be done more or less frequently based on performance. What do you all think?

Subject: sewer and storm maintenance

Gerald,

Months ago you asked us to plan out routes for sewer and catch basin cleaning. I think your intent was to implement a solid CMOM program for Sanitary and Storm maintenance… which we will do. But before we decide how to implement such a thing (how systems, forms, schedules, equipment is set up) the first step is to decide what level of service you want to provide. The basic program recommended by EPA is usually to manage a database with a rating for every sewer line, denoting condition on a scale from 0-5 (0 being unserviceable), and cleaning/ TV inspection once every 5 years. That’s a pretty intense program and I doubt you will find any agency truly doing that without top notch ERP/GIS integration software behind the effort. But we can get darn close if we forgo the requirement to actually track the 0-5 rating in a database, and instead manage two short-lists: “sewers rated 0” which implies 6 month cleaning; “sewers rated 2” which implies 2 year cleaning; and assume all the rest are “sewers rated 5” until they are moved to a shortlist. We’ll also maintain a “Problem Lateral” list. This gets us the same information without the need for complex software, GIS integration, and data entry…which can be a nightmare. Then the service becomes:

***ROBOT SCHEUDLED MAINTENANCE***

Sanitary:

  1. Every sanitary line gets hydro-jetted and TVed at least once every 5 years.
  2. The sewers rated 2 list gets hydro-jetted every 2 years.
  3. The sewers rated 0 list gets hydro-jetted every 6 months.
  4. Problem laterals list is rodded once every 6 months. If they can’t be rodded, they need to be replaced.

Storm:

  1. Every catch basin is cleaned at least once every 5 years
  2. Every storm line that is safe to hydro jet gets cleaned once every 5 years
  3. Outfalls are scraped off and vegetation cut back once every year
  4. Bioswale shoulders are mowed once very year
  5. Bioswales inlet and flow control structures are cleaned once every year

Thoughts from anyone?
