Hi Diana,

I don’t have a issue with it as long as it is on private property and doesn’t interfere with underground utilities. There is one in Silverton on McClaine Street but I couldn’t find a picture of it on Google Earth. The edge of it does not stick out in the sidewalk and it was in the shape of a little house with two shelves facing the street.

Subject: Possible code/zone issue about "little libraries"

Hi Gerald,

I had an inquiry from someone about creating a "little library" in memory of their now dead grandmother who taught at Molalla Elementary and a contact person for placing one. These are popular in many areas. They are basically outdoor bookshelves where people exchange books. There was one near the corner of Annie Ln and Eric Dr in Big Meadow a few years back.

They really want to put it on or near the library grounds which is definitely not a direction I'd like to see. Usually little libraries are located in neighborhoods and not near an established library.

Thoughts? Should I refer this person to Alice, Zinder, or ? about placing one at all?

Thank you,

Diana
