Hi Maeghan,

Thanks for the heads up. We are aware that a group is doing this and that Public Works staff is not responsible for or involved with the installation, removal, cleanup, tuning, etc. for these things.

Regards,

Subject: RE: EVENT/PARK USE - Piano in the Park

FYI – a piano is being installed in the Fox Park Pavilion about 10:30-11 this morning. Apparently it’s painted by an artist with a similar theme as the decorative Molalla flags throughout town. Ken said he will forward me pictures via email when they’re done.

Police and PW – you may want to give your crew a heads up so they don’t think anything fishy is going on!

Subject: EVENT/PARK USE - Piano in the Park

The attached applicant has an abundance of unwanted pianos and would like to offer them to the public as an asset to our parks. They are proposing placing a piano either under the covered area by the mural at Fox Park or in a corner under the pavilion at Fox Park and also maybe at the Gazebo in Long Park. They would not hold the city liable or responsible in cases of damage and/or theft, and would take responsibility of repair and maintenance of the pianos.

They are wanting to install at least one in Fox Park in time for the Celebrate Molalla event on 09/28/2019 and will notify us exactly when they plan to install it.

They initially emailed Dan Huff with the proposal and he’s approved to try as a trial. If anyone has any input or concerns, please share them, or contact the applicant directly. This is something we’ve never done here in Molalla before, but other cities have found success in offering a piano to the public.

Thanks,

Maeghan Sandberg|Parks Coordinator
