Subject: RE: EVENT/PARK USE - Piano in the Park
Importance: Normal
I have an issue with it. As a piano owner, they are susceptible to changes in temperature and moisture. The piano’s will rot and go out of tune and we will get complaints to tune them and clean them up. Perhaps a better location would be at the Senior Center or some other location.
Our parks do not need pianos causing problems and our staff does not need additional things to deal with in the parks. We have enough trouble with needles, poop on the walls, tampered with or destroyed door locks, graffiti, etc. I don’t think our PD wants to respond to teenagers, bar patrons, or transients banging on a piano at 2AM. My 2 cents.

Subject: EVENT/PARK USE - Piano in the Park
The attached applicant has an abundance of unwanted pianos and would like to offer them to the public as an asset to our parks. They are proposing placing a piano either under the covered area by the mural at Fox Park or in a corner under the pavilion at Fox Park and also maybe at the Gazebo in Long Park. They would not hold the city liable or responsible in cases of damage and/or theft, and would take responsibility of repair and maintenance of the pianos.
They are wanting to install at least one in Fox Park in time for the Celebrate Molalla event on 09/28/2019 and will notify us exactly when they plan to install it.
They initially emailed Dan Huff with the proposal and he’s approved to try as a trial. If anyone has any input or concerns, please share them, or contact the applicant directly. This is something we’ve never done here in Molalla before, but other cities have found success in offering a piano to the public.
