FYI. Diana may need to consider in her next year budget to spend some of her capital money to replace all of the fluorescent lights in her building with LED lights. This is something we’ve been doing on every City Hall remodel. She takes regular runs and Andy or myself to do maintenance items at the Library and I’ve said no. Just keeping you in the loop.

Diana, I asked Gerald about the lights – he is not in favor of Public Works Utility Crews doing that task. I thought about your situation and how I would approach it in your shoes. Here is what I might do:

  1. 1. As you said, wait until enough fluorescent lights go out that it’s worth it
  2. 2. Call Cherry City, have them consolidate any good bulbs in those ballasts so you have as many fully working lights as possible. This will leave you with a few ballasts that are completely dark. (Geralds’ idea)
  3. 3. Have them rewire the T8 Fluorescent ballasts to take LEDs, such as those available here:

https://www.amazon.com/Hyperikon-Bulbs-Light-Ballast-Bypass/dp/B00SSNPI80/ref=sr_1_1?qid=1569865686&refinements=p_n_feature_five_browse-bin%3A6104138011&s=hi&sr=1-1

The result is that you won’t have to buy any more T8 lights at all, the Cherry City bills will not be larger than what you are currently experiencing, and over time you will have your building completely redone with LEDs. Let me know your thoughts?

Respectfully,

Andy Peters
