Mitch – All good thoughts. I am including Public Works Director Gerald Fisher in my response. He is out this week at a conference so we may not get right back to you until sometime next week.

Subject: Parking Lot questions

Dan,

I left you a message on the office phone this morning. I have a few loose ends on the parking lot that I wanted to run by you if you had a few minutes.

1. Oak tree..... Over the last 3 years, we have lost 2 large branches out of it and are a bit concerned that it is a safety hazard. Double edge sward is that nobody wants to cut it down, however nobody wants it on their car or child also.. I wanted to know what your thoughts were on this. If it is not taken down, I have proposed that we block off the area under the tree so no cars can park under it for this years parking season.

2. Lights along the sidewalk. My understanding was that Rotary paid for the lights and a Rotarian (Denny Dunrud) put them up, the Buckeroo has always paid the power bill when they were on, but the old handshake agreement was that the city would maintain them as they light up the city's sidewalk. Apparently they need some TLC and I was not sure what needs to be done to fix that. Maybe a thought is that some of this years City's 20% could go toward upgrading those lights and do a few improvements at Bolander Field. Wanted your thoughts.

3. The gates. I have bought new hinges for 3 of the gates at Bolander Field so we can fix the gates properly. The old hinges are broken and worn out. We will be putting them on the gates on the 19th. I was able to adjust the far east gate so that it works properly.

4. We are going to start mowing Bolander Field next week. I talked to Grant this morning and am trying to see if the Buckeroo wants the FFA to mow the triangle piece. As I understand the whole exchange thing is going well and should be done this summer?? I was going to plan on that being the case and not planning to park cars over there this year. Is that the case, or should we be maintaining it and parking over there??

5. The low spot in Bolander Field... There is a low spot in the parking lot that goes from the light pole just east of the oak tree and continues almost to the ditch. It creates a mess in the parking lot. I was thinking I could bring in the track hoe and trench over to the ditch and put in a drain line to help that hole drain over to the ditch? Is that a possibility???

6. On August 21st, there is supposed to be a complete solar eclipse. We were approached by the Chamber to see if the parking lot could be used as a viewing location for the eclipse. Wanted your thoughts on that. I would assume that it would be a parking possibly overnight parking type of thing if we did anything. Wanted to run it by you before we did anything though.

If you get time, please call me and we can go over this stuff. (503) 819-7995

Thanks,

Mitch
