Subject: FYI on utility warrantee program
Importance: Normal
Attachments: message.wav; Hi Dan, I received a call from the National League of Cities Service Line Warranty Program. Attached is the message. I spoke with their representative and let him know that I was going to be gone the week when their salesman would be in the area. I have experience with this type of company. They send out mailers to private property owners stating that there are problems with their service line, they’ve partnered with the City, and that for a low monthly cost they can get a warrantee to have their services fixed when they fail. I informed him that no mailer shall be distributed to our property owners stating that we have partnered with them or are part of their sales pitch. When they do send out the mailers we will get inundated for several weeks with calls from folks in the community asking what this is all about. Please let the Council know that this scam is coming and how to deal with it. If folks want to buy the service then it’s their money and entirely up to them. Or, they can set money aside to pay for the replacement of their onsite private water and sewer lines. Their choice. Christie, If they do not follow my instructions we may need to send out a media blast about this company. Thanks.
