Mayor and Council – In case you hear something.
Our contractor, M.L. Houck, was checking for leaks in the new water line between Robbins and Heintz today. A valve was not fully closed (we think) and some yellow food grade food coloring was released into the water system. M.L. Houck and our city crews were on it quickly and began flushing the line immediately. The good thing is that the food coloring is standard procedure and not harmful at all, just looks bad when you turn on the tap.

Subject: Yellow coloring in water
Dan,
ML Houck was testing the waterline for leaks and introduced a food color (yellow) into the line. Some of it got into the water system and the crews are currently chasing the slug of colored water and are flushing hydrants to get it out of the system. The food coloring is non-toxic and because of this issue we’ve instructed the contractor to no longer use the food coloring and look for leaks the old fashioned way. We have posted something to the website to notify water system users.
It is definitely a Monday.
