Hi Tom,

A letter was sent to the persons of interest in this matter on September 21st. I was contacted yesterday by someone representing them to confirm what needed to be done in regards to cleaning up the right of way. They have until October 6th to clean up the pile in front of the stop sign and to remove the soil and pipe from the north side of 7th Street. They will contact me to inspect prior to that date and if the issues in the ROW are addressed then Public Works won’t turn it over to code enforcement. They have also been notified that dumping on private property is prohibited in the code. I saw no evidence of chemical dumping on site. If you are concerned about soil contamination then you can contact DEQ regarding possible contamination of the property. Without observing a chemical dump in progress we have no probable cause to require the property owner to test the soil. DEQ however may be able help you with your concerns. I’ve included a contact link below to DEQ for your use.

I live at 635 Meltzer and I contacted you about the property across the street ( vacant lot ) being used as a commercial dump site, a residential lot used as a commercial site, the culvert they filled with thin pipe and dirt as well as the pile of wood and debris. The pile of wood has been removed but nothing else has been done. Myself and my neighbors would like to know the time table for the rest of these issues to be rectified and also if the property owners are going to be required to provide a environmental impact report in regards to contamination of the water table from the methane and other particulates resulting from the illegal dumping for over 20 years? I also have concerns about the blockage of the culvert and the upcoming rainy season as the rain we have already have had has caused considerable amount of dirt to flow into the culvert in front of my home and is close to blocking my downspout drains ( A culvert your crews just this last year dug out and is now close to having to be done again because of the blockage the created). Since they are still using the property illegally we would like an update Please. Thank You Tom Mitchell
