Good Afternoon Everyone,

This is a follow-up to our 8/10/21 Economic Development meeting and/or the 8/11/21 Welcome to Molalla meeting. Following is a summary to get you “in the know” if you weren’t able to attend, and information promised to the attendees…

  1. 1. ED Reorganization – Beautification & Culture Committee:
    1. a. The ED Steering and The Arts & Culture Committee will be disbanded and merge into a new Community Program Committee called Beautification & Culture.
    2. b. Staff will take a resolution to the Council on 8/25/21, and the B&C Committee may be selected as early as 9/8/21 if all goes well.
    3. c. Applications are currently being accepted, please don’t hesitate to apply using the attached application form (return completed to the email at the bottom of the page).
    4. d. Samples of Potential Roles & Projects: Art contest for kiosks, Mural code recommendation, Mural application review, Architectural standards, Façade improvement program advisory body, public art review/recommendation.
    5. e. Other projects will be identified by the B&C committee once seated, and sub-committee’s may be formed to fulfill individual projects
    6. f. Call to Action: If you aren’t selected or cannot commit to serving on the B&C committee, please consider being on the list to be offered roles in a sub-committee (individual project), you can pick and choose whether and what you want to participate in.

  1. 2. The Molalla Current – Community Engagement Platform:
    1. a. The city recently acquired a Community Engagement platform, ours has been branded “The Molalla Current” to play on the River, Current Events/Projects, and the direction of the city (current flowing downstream to a destination).
    2. b. Currently under development, expected “Go Live” date 9/18/21 in conjunction with Celebrate Molalla.
    3. c. Provides a space to inform and engage with citizens digitally so the conversation occurs off of social media and is grounded in accurate, factual information.
    4. d. Also enhances the opportunities for community participation in city projects and initiatives.
    5. e. Contains an SMS push notification system to help keep citizens informed in emergencies and other information that requires immediate dissemination.
    6. f. Call to Action: Please help spread the word! The platform will only be effective if we are able to inform the community about it and get people to use it. We will be demoing the new site at Celebrate Molalla which is also the date it will go live!

  1. 3. Final Thoughts
    1. a. If you don’t want to be included on this email list, please email me at mcorthell@cityofmolalla.com and let me know.
    2. b. If you know anyone who should be included or wants to be included on this email list please email me and let me know, I will add them.
    3. c. If you have any questions, shoot them my direction.
    4. d. Next Steps: Get applications in for B&C committee. I intend to use this email list as the potential sub-committee member list so let me know if you don’t want to be on it or if you know someone who would like to be (I know, I already said that).

Thank all of you for continuing to fight to build this community in way that we can all be proud of. You are the pilot, navigator, and engine… I’m happy to be your mechanic.

-Mac
