Stephanie – I ran across this on a recent spill project I reviewed and thought it would be of interest. This was a very recent spill of home heating oil. As you can see it shows up on petroleum hydrocarbon analysis as mostly diesel with some heavy/residual oil range component. I am speculating that over time the diesel component would degrade (decrease) faster than the heavy oil component under most conditions.
