Does Molalla allow for mountable curbs such as this one in a cul-de-sac which would eliminate the need for driveway drops in the curb and sloped wings on each side of the driveway, as well as would allow for the sidewalk grade to be continuous, as opposed to dropping up and down every driveway around the cul-de-sac, since the sidewalk is curb tight?

The code below seems to suggest non-mountable curbs are required on resident streets, but I’m curious about a design for a cul-de-sac at the end of a local street.

“2.2.27 Curbs and Grading Outside of Street

The following specifies the requirements for curbs and cross-slope grading for streets: a. Location and Design: arterial, collector and residential streets shall include curb and gutters on both sides, except in some situations of interim width improvements. Interim designs shall be reviewed and approved on a case by case basis by the City’s authorized representative. Non-mountable curb and gutters shall be required on arterial, collector and residential streets.”

Can I assume you’d allow for an alternative design for curbs in cul-de-sacs under the provision below that allows other turnaround geometrics when approved:

“2.2.15 Cul-de-Sacs, Eyebrows, Turnarounds (Revised 09/29/17)

The design engineer’s plans must be approved by Molalla Fire District and the City’s authorized representative. The following specifies the minimum requirements for cul-de-sacs, eyebrows, and turnaround areas. Other turnaround geometrics may be used when conditions warrant and when the City’s authorized representative approves the design and application of its use.
