Good afternoon Alice. I hope you’re not reading e-mail on your day off. But if your are here goes.
I’ve been giving this Bear Creek issue a lot of thought over the weekend. Including losing sleep over it. I’m not sure if it’s feasible to continue on the way we are. I thank you for stepping in and stepping up in an attempt to make things right for a project that you were never involved in. If this current issue does not pan out, we need to look at options. We do need the second access point so that the subdivision is code compliant. This is not open for discussion. As it stands now, as you know, the current access points do not meet the minimum access requirements of the fire code. In looking for a potential solution so that we can move forward, perhaps it would be best to remove the gate at the Molalla Forest road from the Bear Creek Subdivision as well as the get on the Molalla Forest Road and use that as the secondary access. I walked the Forest Road from Toliver to Bear Creek today. The road is actually in better shape than I had originally thought. Some basic improvements would need to be made to the road. But these could be phased in over the summer.
It appears that the turning radius is there from the subdivision on to the Forest Road as well. Opening up the Forest Road would give the subdivision the access points required by code. I know that Gerald had made the statement that this was not an option due to the Forest Road being a pedestrian and bike path, but it is my believe that this solution is the lesser of two evils. I don’t disagree that it would be best for the access to be off of Hwy 211. However, I don’t think this is going to be possible in the near future and we need to get the access issue resolved. I would be more than willing to sit down with you, Dan and Gerald to discuss this further if need be or if you think it would help. Thoughts?
