No, it is something we do. We will explain it all to the customer when he comes in. They usually allow them to get the permit issued, but explain how to resolve other issues.

Shirley,
Our public works director, Gerald Fisher, mentioned that we need to let them get hooked up to sewer before they can decommission the septic otherwise they will have an interruption of their service. He told me to allow them to connect and then make sure they decommison. I can’t think of another way to do this – am I missing something?
Thanks,

Make sure they bring proof, as we require it in order for them to connect to sewer. Problem is they did have some inspections, so something was done that they never completed and it may impact the issuance.

Shirley,
Thanks for your help. Apparently they never built the hardship house so don’t worry about code enforcement. I’m going to issue them a ROW permit to connect to sewer and water at 915 W Main today. They will come by the county for the plumbing permit and they will decommission the septic once they are connected to sewer.

We turn it in as a violation, as it is the owners responsibility to follow up. Also on land use cases like a hardship, there are renewals involved sometimes. If they came in to get any permits, they would be turned away until all permit related were/are resolved.

Shirley,
What does the County do with this type of situation – like what would the County normally do when you find an unpermitted structure?

Brenda,
They never finished the process for the hardship permit, so technically we would consider it a violation. There was also a detached garage that the process was never completed on as well as the electrical permit. Do you wish to turn this in as a violation to our code enforcement?

There is a large parcel of property with 2 houses on it, I think one is the main house and the second house is a mother-in-law temp. house (while in laws are alive). Anyway the owners are trying to get a permit to hook into water and sewer with the city and they are currently on a shared well system. I’m trying to find out what the county permitted to be on this site – one house or two????
This property will be annexed into the city effective this July (see attached letter on annexation).
