Importance: Normal
Hi Scott,
Minimum aggregate base thickness shall be a minimum eight (8) inches for Local streets and twelve (12) inches for Collector and Arterial streets. I will update our standards to reflect the changes in the last standards. Looks like this section was left out of the base rock section. These are minimums and the geotech report will need to identify whether the base rock section will suffice or if it needs to be a few inches thicker due to subgrade conditions. An alternative to thickening base rock is to use cement treated base in areas where there are poor subgrade conditions.

I had to leave for a meeting right as I was typing my last email, so I didn’t get to the aggregate base portion of my email. I did see the minimum asphalt requirements in the city’s design standards, but haven’t yet found any minimums for aggregate thickness. Does the city have minimums for aggregate thickness for public roads?
Thanks,

Got it – thanks. We modeled the storm system that way…just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something, since it wasn’t in the main body of the design standards.

Gerald –
I know you’re out of the office until 10/20, and might not be able to respond until your return, but I’m trying to locate a couple of things in the new Construction Standards, and am not having much success – hopefully, you can point me in the right direction:
Thanks for your help!
Thanks,
