I spoke with the public works director, whom is the road authority, and he won't let you close the road for a few days. I have attached a sketch showing how this connection can be made without closing the road. You can do half at a time with shoring and steel plates. If you plan on doing this method - the city will require you to notify the impacted neighbors whose on street parking will be impacted while you are doing this work. Please send me a copy of your notice to review for the content and put on the neighbors door 24 hours in advance of roadwork.
