Dear Senator Dingfelder,
Sen.JackieDingfelder@state.or.us
Dear Representative Bailey,
The Department of Environmental Quality is proposing rules to align state regulations with revised federal regulations.
Oregon DEQ is proposing rules that will modify the state’s air quality plan known as the State Implementation Plan to align with revised federal regulations. Proposed amendments include adoption of 1-hour significant impact levels for nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide, adoption of primary 1-hour national ambient air quality standards for nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide, and revision of the existing ambient air quality standard for lead.
The proposed rule changes are necessary to ensure that Oregon DEQ’s Air Quality Division has adequate authority to meet the requirements of the Clean Air Act. If adopted by the Environmental Quality Commission in October of this year, the proposed changes will be submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for approval as revisions to infrastructure elements of the Oregon Clean Air Act State Implementation Plan.
The proposal is online at www.deq.state.or.us/regulations/proposedrules.htm. DEQ is accepting public comment on the proposal until Monday, Aug. 19, 2013. If you have questions or comments, please contact Carrie Capp at capp.carrie@deq.state.or.us or 503-229-5868.
Sincerely,
Andrea Curtis
