Subject: fish consumption

Importance: Normal

The new fish consumption rate of 175 g per day is excessive. I read in the CTUIR paper that there was a study done 15 years ago which concluded that the real rate of consumption was 9 times the 6.5 g per day which is 58.5 g per day. The article I read used information from a survey done in 1994--Technical report 94-3 ( A fish consumption survey of the Umatilla, Nez Perce, Yakima, and Warm springs tribes). In this survey 90% of respondents ate less than 97.0 g per day of fish, 95% ate less than 170 g per day. Everyone wants clean water and safe food but why do we have to go so far overboard? We need to balance cost with the necessity. The 90th percentile seems more than adequate.
